A Contemporary Interpretation of An Existing Collection of Beach Huts
Our clients were looking for Architects to obtain planning permission for a contemporary new home in the heart of the South Hams
This bespoke new home replaces a series of three old sheds with a compact yet highly contemporary beach side house. The sensitive site on the South Devon coast presented a number of planning challenges, and the proposal had to sit largely within the compact footprint of the original buildings.
The design comprises three modern interpretations of the old sheds, each containing a different area of accommodation. One box contains the living space, the second is the kitchen / dining room and the last box houses 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. The three elements are linked with glazed walkways to visually articulate each element.
Three boxes all open out onto sunny terrace areas, and projecting roofs form contemporary covered verandas providing a sheltered transition space between inside and outside as well as shade to the full height glazing.
